Tray In Sensor Isn't Working - Legacy ATC (10 Pocket0

Background

The tray sensors are normally open reed switches that are band clamped at the end of the pneumatic actuator. Tray In is hidden in a recess in the linear rail behind the pneumatic cylinder and is not visible unless the cylinder has been removed.

The piston is magnetic and activates the reed switches when the piston inside the cylinder comes within 0.100 in. of the sensor.

NOTE: PathPilot 2.0.0 or greater, does not use the Tray Out Sensor

Sensor Adjustment, Connection, or Replacement

Reason: The tray reed sensor failed, moved, or disconnected.

  1. Use a high-powered magnet to verify whether or not the sensor is working by placing it near the Tray In sensors while watching the Tray In status light on the Status tab in the PathPilot interface.

    1. If it does’t: Distinguish between a wiring problem and a sensor problem by measuring the sensors output with an Ohm meter (multimeter). When a magnet is near the sensor, the sensor should read close to 0 Ohms, otherwise it should read open circuit.

Replace the Piston

Reason: The piston magnet has fallen off.

  1. Place a high-powered magnet on the outside of the piston and advance and retract the tray. Since the piston and cylinder are stainless steel. The magnet will only stick to the magnet and slide along the air cylinder in conjunction with the piston.

    1. If it doesn’t: The magnet (PN 32128) fell off the piston and the piston needs to be replaced.
