Tray Won't Reference - Legacy ATC (10 Pocket)

Background

The Tray Reference sensor is a normally open reed switch housed in a black plastic enclosure on the underside of the carousel umbrella. It is used to provide a carousel home reference position. It reads a small neodymium magnet ( 0.125 in. DIA stick out 0.070 in.) embedded in the hub (PN 32152).

The tray references when:

  • You select the Tray Ref button on the ATC tab in the PathPilot interface.

  • During the first tool change after PathPilot is started.

  • Any time after the machine is powered on after pressing the Emergency Stop button.

It spins quickly in one direction until the sensor reads the magnet, moves past the magnet, then it reverses direction and moves slowly until it reads the magnet again.

Reinstall the Hub Magnet

Reason: The magnet dislodged itself from the hub.

  1. Locate the hub and inspect it to see if the magnet is still in place.

    1. If it isn’t, try to source a 0.125 in. DIA neodymium magnet that will stick out 0.070 in. after installed.
Or contact Technical Support to determine if any ATC Tool Tray Hubs (PN 32152) are in stock.

Sensor Alignment

Reason: The hub and magnet are out of alignment with the sensor.

  1. Inspect the sensor and magnet alignment to ensure they are spaced appropriately.

    1. If not, adjust the position and reinspect.

Replace Sensor

Reason: The sensor is malfunctioning or disconnected.

  1. Using a high-powered magnet, place it in front of the sensor while measuring the resistance on the red and green wires of the 20-pin Molex connector. With the magnet in place, the resistance should read 0 Ohms, and without the magnet it should read OL (Open Line).

    1. If not, contact Technical Support about replacing the tray sensor (PN 32164).
