Can't Load or Unload a Tool, or the Spindle's Drawbar Drags Against the Power Drawbar Cylinder's Piston - 1500MX

Check Incoming Air Pressure

Reason: Insufficient shop air pressure.

  • Examine the shop air pressure, and verify that there’s a minimum of 90 psi compressed air at the machine’s FRL Filter-Regulator-Lubricator.

Verify Drawbar Spring Preload

Reason: Insufficient or excessive preload of drawbar springs.

Verify that there’s sufficient preload of the drawbar disc springs:

  1. Examine the shop air pressure and verify that there’s a minimum of 90 psi compressed air at the machine’s FRL Filter-Regulator-Lubricator.
If the machine’s inlet air pressure is too low, it limits the machine’s ability to unclamp tools. Examine the power drawbar cylinder’s hydraulic fluid make up reservoir, excess fluid should be seen in the make reservoir when the cylinder is in the unclamped position. Top up hydraulic oil if fluid is not seen in reservoir when in the unclamped position.

  2. If the spindle drawbar cylinder drags against the top of the spindle, or if excessive tool kickout (>0.6 mm) is noted when unclamping tools adjusting the drawbar’s upper nut may be necessary.

  3. Verify that the clamping force is 350±50 kgf and the spindle smoothly and reliably clamps and unclamps tool holders.
